Post-Graduation Work Permits

Published: Apr 25, 2022

Under normal circumstances, a post-graduation work permit cannot be extended. It is issued only once. In a policy announced April 22, 2022, though, the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration said that starting in the summer of 2022, former international students who are in Canada and have a post-graduation work permit expiring between January and December, 2022 will qualify for an additional open work permit of up to 18 months.

No details of this new program have been released. If you currently hold a post-graduation work permit, please keep an eye on the IRCC web site for news as to when this program actually opens.
