COVID-19 Update

Published: Mar 17, 2020

All Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada offices and the Immigration and Refugee Board shut down due to COVID-19.

All hearings at the Immigration and Refugee Board except for detention reviews are adjourned effective March 17, 2020 to April 5, 2020.

The Federal Court has cancelled all non-urgent matters for the period March 16 to 27, 2020.

In 2019 the Refugee Protection Division received 58,378 new refugee claims. In that year 42,491 refugee claims were decided or otherwise finalized. As of December 31, 2019, the Refugee Protection Division had 87,270 cases still waiting to be heard.

All in-country appointments with IRCC have also now been cancelled until April 13, 2020. If you have an in-Canada landing appointment booked, it will be held by telephone.

Please note: The Government of Ontario has declared that during the current government ordered shutdown, professional services, including lawyer's services, are essential services. We are therefore still open for the foreseeable future during our regular hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

We wish all of you the best of health at this unusual time.
